12:00 p.m.
  • Chapter President, Mary Montague, called the meeting to order at 12:09 P.M.
  • Introductions were made.
  • In Attendance:  Mary Montague, Greg Seger, Allan Brown, Sally Maloney, Steve Lampert,  Rex Turner, Ken Sandlin , Charles Chase, Bob Taylor, Michael Grubbs, Audra Wonsyld, Tom Venzon, Dale Bohannon, Nannette Chase.
  • Ken Sandlin made a motion to approve the agenda with the additions of an update on the SOC/ICC ABM plans and discussion on wall bracing and the energy code. Nannette Chase seconded the motion. Motion carried.
  • Audra Wonsyld made a motion to approve the April minutes and Greg Seger seconded the motion. Motion carried.
  • Treasurer Audra Wonsyld presented the operating report. The Chapter currently has a balance of $9531.71.
  • 2012 ICC ABM Workgroup Update – Nannette gave a report on sponsorship for the Welcome Event. Sponsorship sign up and list of sponsors are now on the ICC website on the conference link.  If you are planning on attending the ICC ABM save $60 by registering prior to September 1, 2012. Pins are currently being designed for the conference. The possibility of using recycled wood is being researched. Nannette reminded members that having the ICC ABM in Oregon is a very special event and it does not happen often. The Welcome Event will be held at the World Forestry Center in Portland. While the ABM offers many educational and networking opportunities there will also be many other fun events being held.
  • Education Committee Update - Mary reported that there will be two upcoming training opportunities.  One class will be on fire sprinklers and another class will be on wall bracing. The education committee will be meeting at Medford City Hall on Tues. @ 1:00 P.M. bring your ideas and suggestions for training.  Some topics being proposed are: Accessibility Code roundtable.  If you have ideas give them to Dale or Mary or Chris.
  • Officer Nominations – Rex Turner has taken a position with BCD and therefore could not continue as Vice President. Congrats Rex!! We hope you stay in touch with us all!  This leaves a void for position of Chapter President.
The following people were nominated for Officer’s positions for the next two year term: Charlie Chase / President; Mike Grubbs / Vice President; Nannette Chase / Secretary; and Chad Wiltrout / Treasurer.  Mary called for nominations to be closed. Motion passed. The official election will be held at the July meeting. The new officers will be installed at the SOC/ICC ABM in August.     
  • Discussion of Region II Formation – Audra gave a brief report on the Region II formation.  In summary, it is proposed by ICC that the state chapters combine geographically in order to have a greater voice, stronger networks, greater political strength, etc.  Region II would consist of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.   Information packets were given out for the members to review.  A vote to support the formation of the proposed Region II is being encouraged by ICCIt was agreed to put this on the July agenda and call for a vote in August. (Members are urged to read up on this before the July meeting.)
  • IABO (International Assoc. of Building Officials) - Dale gave some background history on this.  The voice of the Building Officials was heard primarily through code associations such as BOCA, UBC, ICC, SBCO.  The IABO will enable the Building Officials to have a voice as a group.
  • BCD - Rex told us about his new position. He also shared that Michael Morter would again be our BCD representative.  The BCD website has a calculator for wall bracing.
  • Scholarship Award - A Construction Technology scholarship was awarded to Gene Rahenkamp.  The scholarship was in the amount of $500.  Congrats Gene!
  • SOC/ICC ABM - It was decided that the Chapter ABM in August will be held at the Taprock Northwest Grill in Grants Pass.  The officers toured the facility meeting rooms and felt it was a great choice. The facility overlooks the Rogue River. Taprock Northwest Grill is located at 941 S.E. 6th Street in Grants Pass.  The facility offers a full menu with a wide variety, libations, and a welcoming atmosphere. For our out of town guests, there is also an adjoining motel; The Lodge At Riverside.
  • There was discussion about the challenges presented by the Energy Code. There are more restrictions especially on vaulted ceilings. Advice from Ken: read all the footnotes!!   There was also a brief discussion on HVAC issues.
  • Our next meeting will be July 27, 2012, in Medford. Our guest speaker will be Michael Carver.
