SOUTHERN OREGON CHAPTER INTERNATIONAL CODE COUNCIL
MINUTES July 25, 2014 / 12:00 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER/INTRODUCTIONS
Chapter President, Charles Chase, called the meeting to order at 12:21 P.M.
Members and guests in attendance: Ted Zuk, Nannette Chase, Audra Wonsyld, Lynda Wulf, Robert Rice, Jay Stine, Ken Sandlin, and Dennis Richey.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Dennis Richey made a motion to approve the June minutes as presented and Robert Rice seconded the motion. Motion passed.
III. REPORTS FROM OFFICERS
Operating Report - Ted Zuk handed out copies of the June 2014 operating report.
IV. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
SOCICC 2014 ABM – Ted went over the plans for the ABM “Potluck BBQ” to be held on August 22, 2014, at Tom Pearce Park in Grants Pass. Information fliers and emails have been sent to members. Ted encouraged all members to attend and to please RSVP using the SOCICC Website.
V. NEW BUSINESS
Election of Officers for 2014 - 2016 – A list of the nominees was handed out to members in attendance. There was a change in nominees for Vice President: Ken Sandlin and Chad Wiltrout withdrew their names and Jay Stine’s was submitted. Robert Rice made a motion to close the nominations and Ken Sandlin seconded the motion. Motion passed. Ken Sandlin made a motion to accept the nominees presented and Robert Rice seconded the motion. Motion passed.
VII. OPEN DISCUSSION
Fire Suppression Plans for non-exempt structures was discussed. Ken spoke about the challenges with getting a registered design professional to submit plans on a recent project. Robert talked briefly about Building Code requirements and enforcement concerning direct contact.
Education Classes and Revenue – Robert spoke about the need to revitalize the Chapter’s interest in scheduling classes and trainings every year. Nannette mentioned that the Education Committee did meet and was tasked with scheduling classes for this spring and fall. Ted suggested that a change will most likely be needed to have the Executive Committee be in charge of scheduling classes and trainings in the future. Robert suggested that engineers and architects be solicited to attend classes and trainings. Ken mentioned the idea of obtaining authorization from BCD to provide licensing classes through our chapter.
Changes to the By-laws – There was some discussion on the challenges of holding chapter meetings on Fridays. Some jurisdictions have alternate Fridays off and during the summer months many people take long weekends. Ted will request further discussion at the September meeting to consider moving the meetings to the 4th Thursday of each month.
